Wright Institute Community Groups
Wright Institute Students of Color (WISOC). The mission of WISOC is to increase cultural awareness within the Wright Institute community through partnering with other WI organizations, and increasing knowledge regarding the experience of marginalized groups of color in our society.

White Privilege Accountability Forum (WPAF) is an organized space within which students and faculty are invited to address, process, and promote action regarding issues of imbalanced cultural power inherent in white skin privilege. These directives for the forum consider the environment of the WI itself, as well as the field of professional psychology, and our communities at large.

Lavender Hand is an organization providing a system of support and advocacy for LGBTQIQ2S (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersexed, questioning, two-spirit)-identified students. Lavender Hand aims to increase greater awareness of issues pertaining to LGBTQIQ2S individuals in the community and to challenge dominant narratives that continue to marginalize this population.

Tell All Perspectives (TAP) is the collaborative student run organization born from pre-existing student organizations at the Wright (WISOC, Lavender Hand, WOW, WPAF) who are committed to the diversity of human experience and seek to provide support, education and advocacy for disempowered, under-served and marginalized groups of society. The TAP committee is comprised of several representatives from each student group and is responsible for organizing monthly lunchtime talks/discussions on issues of diversity. It is from the equal and collaborative efforts of this committee that speakers are recruited, events are marketed and catered for the student body and faculty at the Wright Institute. By organizing these monthly events, TAP seeks to maintain diversity at the forefront of our clinical education in the hope to bring people together, to widen our view of our communities, to gain better insight about our clients and enhance our abilities as clinicians to seek all perspectives.

Women of the Wright (WOW) is a group of women dedicated to creating a collaborative and supportive environment for female students. Members share their experiences as graduate students and clinicians at monthly meetings, and engage in discussions about gender issues as they arise in academic and clinical settings.

Almuerzo en Espanol! (Lunch in Spanish!) is a new group that provides a safe space where people can make mistakes while learning and practicing the language, and focus on free form conversation instead of corrections. The brown bag lunch meetings are for fluent speakers as well as beginners. The English-Spanish Dictionary of Health Related Terms is available during the meetings. Suggested ideas for the group include role plays of therapy sessions, watching movies in Spanish, attending cultural events, having potlucks;, and researching language immersion programs and volunteer opportunities in Spanish-speaking countries.
