Dr. Johnson is a licensed clinical psychologist with extensive experience in business management and finance, as well as clinical management and supervision. In her career as a psychologist she has successfully run a non-profit clinical treatment program and consulted in corporate and non-profit settings regarding individual and team behavioral health issues, and is experienced in crisis assessment and intervention. Her theoretical orientation integrates systems, psychodynamic and social justice theories with developments in positive psychology and mindfulness approaches. Her clinical interests center around at-risk school-age children and community mental health clients including homeless adults and families, and adults with serious and persistent mental illness.

Dr. Johnson is the director of The Wright Network, which was established to further the Institute's mission of educating Clinicians to Society by: 1) establishing clinical service and training programs that foster psychological flourishing in underserved communities, and 2) educating Wright students to apply psychological knowledge and skills, not just to treat clinical problems, but also to appreciate and cultivate the capacities of underserved communities to promote wellness, recovery and resiliency. In so doing, the Wright Network seeks to strengthen students' ability to build a culturally diverse perspective grounded in their own developing experience. Through its evaluation program, the Network also provides dissertation opportunities for Wright students.

The School-Based Collaboration (SBC) is one of the Wright Network projects. The SBC is a strategic response to a confluence of systemic barriers--including discrimination, violence, racism and poverty--that affect the academic performance and social-emotional development of youth in Oakland and Emeryville. Its mission is to foster academic and life success in children from multiply-stressed communities through provision of culturally competent, evidence-based psychological services to the school community. Through these and other projects, Dr. Johnson and her team seek to provide students with unique training opportunities to build the sophisticated clinical knowledge and skills that will help them develop a multi-faceted approach to meeting the needs of underserved communities.
