Born in Argentina and educated in Israel and the U.S., Dr. Winkel has an international background that has helped shape her interests in psychology, social theory and cultural studies. Prior to becoming interested in psychology, Dr. Winkel was a microbiologist and conducted research in the field of virology. Dr. Winkel is a psychoanalyst and a member of the San Francisco Center for Psychoanalysis (formerly San Francisco Psychoanalytic Institute). She has served on the faculty at the University of California at San Francisco and is currently on the faculty at the San Francisco Center for Psychoanalysis. Some of Dr. Winkel's other current interests include the psychoanalytic study of music, cultural and social issues and cross-cultural phenomena.
