Dr. Winkel is a psychoanalyst. Born in Argentina and educated in Israel and the U.S., she has an international background that has helped shape her interests in psychology, social theory, and cultural studies. Prior to becoming interested in psychology, Dr. Winkel was a microbiologist and conducted research in the field of virology. Dr. Winkel is faculty at the San Francisco Center for Psychoanalysis and at the Psychoanalytic Institute of Northern California, and is an assistant clinical professor at UC Berkeley.

Dr. Winkel is a classically trained musician and she is interested in the psychoanalytic study of music. Other research interests of hers are on the subjects of cultural and social influences on female identity formation and professional development. Dr. Winkel has a private practice of psychotherapy and psychoanalysis in San Francisco and Oakland.
