Dr. Steven Kanofsky presented on how aspects of Narrative Therapy and Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Therapy might enrich Control Mastery Theory and practice.

Dr. Steven Kanofsky recently gave a presentation on how some concepts and methods of Narrative Therapy and Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Therapy (AEDP) might enrich Control Mastery Theory and practice.

Wright Institute faculty member, Dr. Steven Kanofsky, gave a presentation on September 15, 2013 for the San Francisco Psychotherapy Research Group seminar on New Directions in Control Mastery Theory. He discussed how some concepts and methods of Narrative Therapy and AEDP might enrich Control Mastery Theory and practice. In particular, he discussed three elements highlighted by these theories: the Narrative Therapy focus on integrating a cultural lens in case formulation; the AEDP focus on accessing and expressing core emotional experience; and the emphasis in both theories on amplifying times when clients are successfully overcoming their problems (or pathogenic beliefs, in Control Mastery language).

Dr. Kanofsky discussed how integrating these elements into the Control Mastery case formulation approach can enable the therapist-client dyad to more effectively overcome the client's limiting beliefs and support their pursuit of desired therapeutic goals.
