The Wright Institute is seeking applications for the positions of Full Time Faculty for its Masters in Counseling Psychology Program, to commence in Fall 2025. Applications will be accepted until July 18, 2025.
Background
Founded in 1968 by renowned psychologist Nevitt Sanford, a pioneer in integrating social issues with clinical psychology, the Wright Institute is built on his belief in lifelong learning and personal growth. Sanford’s developmental approach shapes the foundation of the Institute’s educational programs. The Clinical Program (Psy.D) was the first established, followed by the Counseling Psychology (MA) program in 2006.

Job Description
Full-Time Core Faculty at the Wright Institute form the foundation of faculty leadership for the Wright Institute Master’s in Counseling Program, providing stewardship in teaching, curriculum, mentorship, and program culture. They shape the student experience serving as regular educational touch points throughout a student’s time at the Institute, mentor part-time core faculty and adjuncts, and play a key role in the program’s growth and excellence. Their primary responsibilities include teaching, advising, and supporting students, mentoring faculty, serving as “lead faculty” on courses, mentoring adjunct faculty to ensure high instructional standards, guiding curriculum and culture, and working alongside administration and other departments within the program. By balancing clinical practice with current research, they help students develop their professional identity and clinical skills. Core Faculty also contribute to the Counseling Program’s development, evaluation, and improvement through leadership and participation in service and governance While the Institute is not a research institution, Full-Time Core Faculty integrate research & scholarship into their teaching and clinical practice.
Responsibilities
Qualifications
A doctoral degree in Marriage and Family Therapy, Counseling Psychology, Clinical Psychology, or related field from an accredited program, and licensed to practice in California. Candidates must have experience teaching at the graduate level and expertise with course subjects, as well as a commitment to incorporating issues of social justice and equity into all aspects of their work. Experience with program leadership and educational development preferred but not required. Experience in teaching the following courses is preferred but not limited to: Research Based Practice, Law & Professional Ethics, Group Counseling, Individual and Family Development, Family Therapy, Sexual Development and Health, and Addictions Counseling.
Compensation
Full-time Core Faculty Compensation and Benefits:
Salary ranges between $89,874 to $154,987.
Benefits: The Institute pays a 15% fringe benefit in addition to the base compensation. The fringe benefit may be taken in cash (in which case it is fully taxable) or allocated among a choice of health insurance plans, a dental plan, and/or a 403(b) plan. In addition, we have a cafeteria plan that provides a pre-tax savings benefit for the above insurance plans and other IRS defined medical and childcare expenses.
