Dr. Krystal Stanley is a licensed psychologist with over 15 years of clinical, supervisory and private practice consulting experience. She has worked with clients in a range of settings including university counseling centers, community mental health, public and charter schools, and non-profit/community based counseling centers. Dr. Stanley co-owns a group private practice based in the DMV (District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia), which is where she lived and practiced for 13 years prior to moving to the Bay area in 2021. In her practice she provides psychotherapy for adults who are experiencing life transitions, loss/grief, career concerns, family-of-origin relationship difficulties, disordered eating, and distress related to body image. She also works with Queer, Polyamorous/CNM, Aspec (folks on the asexual spectrum) and Aromantic, and fat-identified folks. Dr. Stanley utilizes a variety of therapeutic modalities in her clinical work but primarily draws from Family Systems, Cognitive-Behavioral, and Mindfulness-based therapies, and also has advanced training in group therapy, couples therapy, and Brainspotting.
In addition to the provision of therapy, Dr. Stanley has a special interest in supervision and private practice business consultation. She has supervised post-doctoral psychologists, pre-doctoral interns, and pre-licensed masters associates throughout her career in both her private practice and university counseling center settings. She enjoys supporting student and early-career therapists in their professional development and identity as a clinician, and she finds that this work enhances her own clinical growth. As a group practice owner, Dr. Stanley has consulted with numerous individuals who are in the early stages of forming an individual practice and those who are considering transitioning from a solo to a group practice. She has also done workshops and webinars and co-authored resources for various organizations on private practice related matters.
Dr. Stanley has been teaching in Counseling Psychology programs at the masters and doctoral level since 2020. Prior to moving to California she was an adjunct instructor at the Chicago School of Professional Psychology in Washington, DC, and since moving to the Bay Area she has taught courses at Golden Gate University (group therapy and psychopathology) and Santa Clara University (psychological assessment) in addition to teaching at The Wright Institute. At the Wright Institute she teaches Individual and Family Development, Clinical Assessment and Measures, Counseling Theories and Techniques, Research Based Methods, and Common Therapeutic Factors.
Outside of work, Dr. Stanley is a “jack of all hobbies but master of none." She enjoys cooking and baking, paddleboarding, cross stitch and embroidery, nature walks, reading, tinkering on her guitar and ukulele, and spending time with friends and loved ones.
